Creating an account was simple and only took around a minute. Asking for a phone number for extra security was a nice touch. Asking for your interests as well as the subcategories straight up to get posts to you that you would find interesting or entertaining is something I like about Twitter right off of the bat. Most of the posts I see immediately are news based, although my interests. Looking around the homepage and searching my settings, I couldn't find a way to change my interests I had set which is pretty disappointing. Though Twitter is a good service for news. The positive reasons to use Twitter
Keeping up with news, Twitter has no shortage of news stories.
Following certain celebrities you like to keep you updated with them (they're generally active on Twitter)
You can absorb so much information just by using the scroll wheel and reading.
Keeping track of what's trending in the world.
Using twitter to share your artwork and whatnot
The issues faced when using Twitter
Spam bots that follow you without you even making a post
Not able to change interests you have set.
Less popular than Facebook, most would rather use Facebook to communicate rather than Twitter.
Finding the settings isn't exactly easy. I needed to click on my profile picture on the home page which opens a dropdown menu and click on settings, to someone who doesn't know much about social media or technology, they may have never even found out how to get to the settings menu seeing as it's pretty hidden.
Tools features and applications that can be used within Twitter
"Tweeting" is Twitter's name for creating a post on Twitter. With a "Tweet" you can post 140 letter posts, videos, pictures and links.
"Trends" on the left sidebar keep you updated with what's currently trending within your country, worldwide or within your interests.
Sending a private message to someone or "DMing" (Direct Messaging). Depending on the privacy setting of the user you are trying to DM, they may need to be following you first before you can DM them.
Is there someone that you don't like on Twitter? You can block them by going on their profile and clicking on the gear icon and blocking them.
With bigger stories that are going on at the moment or in the past, you can have a look at the "Moments" tab. It shows you what's currently going on in the world, right now the Olympics are on and it's showing me all of the stories going on in Rio. I could also press the subcategories and see other things that are happening such as "News", "Sports", "Entertainment" and "Fun".
Notifications. You will recieve notifications on the top left "Notifications" tab. To know if you have a notification or not the tab will display a number next to it depending on how many notifications you have. Notifications you recieve are when someone follows you, likes one of your tweets or mentions you.
It's ease of use
Setting up the account was simple, with it only taking around a minute or two to set it up.
Right after you login, the tweet bar is right there up the top. You can also use this bar to upload a picture.
The "Who to follow" box on the left is convenient and shows you accounts that are similar to others you've followed and makes suggestions on who to follow based on that.
