To me, Social Media is generally a website or application that people visit with their devices to communicate with other people, keep up with others lives, read news or just be entertained with pictures and videos.
Google your full name - if you have many results for people of the same name as you refine your Google search to your full name plus the city or town you live in. Consider that maybe you use a nickname or another name online.
Googling my full name, along with my city and suburb, did not come up with anything to do with me. A nickname also returned nothing. Searches for my grandpa's name alone returned lots of results, none him. Adding in a city didn't help either, nor did a suburb. For my mum, the only results that were anything to do with her was her ABN (Australian Business Number).
Go to this site and do another search on your name - pipl
Searching for myself and my family, including location yielded no results.
While you are at pipl, search for your email address and your mobile number
My email address had no results, as well as my mobile phone number. With my mothers email on the otherhand I was able to find two accounts on "picasawebs" and "pinterest", both dead accounts.
Lastly try this search engine to find your digital footprint, by entering your name - dogpile
Searching for myself and my family had no results.
Since I couldn't find anything of my own, I didn't take any steps to remove any of my digital footprint. All in all, I think the reason why I had so much trouble searching for myself and family members is our extremely common first and last names.
RSS Feeds
From my research, an RSS feeds are like a "news feed" that updates you on when websites change, things are posted on sites (such as blogs) and other updates. First you would need an RSS reader to be able to read the RSS feeds, these feeds can be provided to you in a couple of ways; web-based readers and computer programs. RSS feeds are an alternative to signing up to a website's newsletter for example.
